You know that using a debit card is getting more dangerous these days. There are so many ways crooks can steal the number and PIN, and get to your checking account when you make store purchases. And clean that account from your money. All 100 percent. The best protection against debit card fraud is to use a regular credit card. With the credit cards, you are fully protected against fraud. Just may be liable for $50 in certain cases.

But if you insist on charging a debit card, make sure it has either Visa or MasterCard logo. Such cards can be used as credit cards, yet the money will be coming out of the checking account. And yet again, they offer fraud protection, but only if the transaction is processed through Visa or MasterCard system.

When you use your debit card with PIN, the transaction as debit is processed through a completely different network, which offers no fraud protection. You can loose all the money on the account linked to the card and loose it for good. So what should you do while using a debit card?

Swipe your debit card. Almost certainly, a checkout terminal will automatically display a PIN pad. Don’t enter, but hit the Cancel button on the screen. It will not cancel the transaction, but instead, switch you to a signature screen or print a paper receipt for you to sign. That’s all it is to it. The money still will come from the bank account this debit card is linked to, but you have a credit card grade fraud protection because the transaction went through the secure credit card system.
